In recent years, microwave transmission technology has advanced, leading to increased demand for communication equipment. In such equipment, antennas are sometimes mounted between printed circuit boards or metal structures. In this configuration, the antenna is effectively placed within a parallel-plate structure, resulting in edge reflections and resonance that affect the antenna’s performance. Furthermore, since antenna characteristics also vary depending on the size of the parallel plates, it is important to develop a general-purpose antenna evaluation method that accounts for a wide range of parallel plate configurations. In this study, we first evaluate the differences between free-space and parallel-plate installations, then describe how characteristics vary with the size of the parallel plates, and finally propose an optimal model for evaluating antenna performance within parallel plates.
