In conventional waveguide slot array antennas, the radiated power of slots on the broad wall is controlled by adjusting the slot offset from the waveguide centerline. However, in relatively short arrays consisting of several tens of elements, the slot offset increases toward the terminated end of the waveguide. In alternating-phase-fed waveguide slot array antennas, this large offset may cause undesired grating lobes in specific directions.

This paper investigates the effect of radiating slot width on an alternating-phase-fed waveguide slot array antenna incorporating a stair-step structure for slot-offset reduction. The stair-step structure enables a significant reduction in slot offset while maintaining the desired radiation characteristics.
