OTFS modulation has been shown to outperform OFDM in high-mobility environments, that is, high-Doppler environments. However, OTFS still faces several challenges, including the high complexity of equalization, or symbol detection, in the delay-Doppler (DD) domain, as well as the large overhead required for channel estimation because guard symbols must be placed around pilot symbols. To address these issues, this paper investigates a method that combines DD-domain channel estimation used in OTFS modulation with OFDM data transmission. The results show that the proposed method outperforms OFDM in high-Doppler environments.
