The authors are engaged in the research and development of a “Next-Generation Public Broadband (Public BB)” system, which enhances the functionality of a public broadband mobile communication system operating in the VHF band. The next-generation Public BB aims to improve mobility in disaster response and to enable video transmission from disaster-stricken areas that are difficult to access, by deploying the system on unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs). However, in implementing UAV-based operation, several technical challenges arise, including not only the miniaturization and weight reduction of equipment, but also issues such as noise generated by the UAV, modulation effects caused by rotating propellers, and optimization of antenna installation. In this paper, we report the results of our investigation into the characteristics of noise generated by the UAV and the identification of its sources among the aforementioned challenges.
