In optical transport networks, services can be restored by rerouting optical wavelength paths in the event of failures such as fiber cuts caused by severe natural disasters. However, manual wavelength assignment and transmission quality assessment for alternate routes can require several hours before service restoration is completed. To overcome this challenge, we conducted a proof-of-concept demonstration of a technology that automates wavelength assignment and quality verification for alternate routes, thereby enabling rapid rerouting of optical wavelength paths. This paper presents the effectiveness of an in-service OSNR estimation method applied as one of the key enabling technologies.
