This paper presents a 57-71-GHz CMOS phased-array transceiver with a distributed aperture-tuning antenna for wide-coverage 5G NR FR2-2 operation. The proposed antenna-port shared tuners reconfigure the effective radiation aperture in TX and RX modes without an additional RF switch or PA power increase. Fabricated in 65-nm CMOS, the transceiver achieves EIRP improvements of 2.1 dB at 57 GHz and 1.7 dB at 71 GHz, corresponding to EIRP-efficiency improvements of 62.2% and 47.9%, respectively, in a compact 4 mm x 4 mm implementation.
