Future 6G communication systems require high antenna gain to support long distance wireless communication. However, conventional phased arrays are limited by aperture and scalability to improve antenna gain. Distributed phased arrays can be a solution by coherently combining multiple antenna arrays to provide enhanced signal gain. Precise phase-shifting in distributed array requires much higher resolution than conventional phased array. In this condition, switched-type phase shifters (STPSs) are available because phase resolution can be easily extended by cascading additional phase-shifting stages. In this work, a 26-GHz cascaded switched-type phase shifter with high phase resolution and fine phase tuning capability is proposed. By cascading multiple STPS stages, the proposed design achieves accurate phase control with low RMS phase error.
