[C-14-04]Polarization-Multiplexed THz Transmission Using a Dual-Feed Photonic 2D Array Antenna

Photomixing-based terahertz (THz) wave generation, which is highly compatible with optical fiber communication systems, has attracted considerable attention as a promising technology for realizing ultra-high-speed wireless communications beyond 100 Gbit/s. To further increase the transmission capacity without expanding the occupied bandwidth, polarization-division multiplexing (PDM) is an effective approach. However, conventional antenna configurations become increasingly complex when extended to array implementations.In this paper, we demonstrate PDM transmission and polarization separation of two independent 300-GHz-band signals using our previously developed photonic two-dimensional (2D) array antenna composed of dual-fed patch antenna elements [1]. The experimental results verify the effectiveness of PDM for THz wireless transmission and demonstrate the feasibility of high-capacity THz wireless systems based on the proposed photonic 2D array antenna.
