To support rapid growth of the sizes of modern AI models, large-scale datacenters are required to handle massive parallel processing between xPUs (CPUs, GPUs) for the learning and the inference tasks. Electrical Packet Switched (EPS) networks adopt acceleration hardwares on the switch to efficiently handle collective operations such as AllReduce. On the other hand, the rapid growth of the total power consumption due to OE/EO conversions and switch ASICs is a large problem in modern AI networks. In this study, we propose a Silicon hybrid optical processor that is capable of both optical switching and optical AllReduce processing to reduce the power consumption. In this talk, we briefly explain about the proposed device structure and recent experimental results.
