Diffusion and sorption behaviors of iodine in mortar and hardened cement paste (HCP) samples were compared to examine the effects of fine aggregate. The distribution coefficient (Kd) value obtained from the through-diffusion experiment was one order of magnitude smaller than the Kd value obtained from the sorption experiment. This may be because the migration pathway of iodine contains the interfacial transition zone, which has less sorption sites than HCP.
