How does a scientific image become a 3D/volumetric model in a virtual simulation of a planetarium software? That was one of the questions raised by our PhD thesis.
So, let’s follow the journey of a scientific image together: from the laboratory to the planetarium.
More specifically, we focus on the transfer of scientific images—and the knowledge they convey—from their places of production (laboratories) to planetariums. We will see that this transfer involves a series of transformations of these images under the influence of media constraints specific to planetariums. In this presentation, we ask the following questions: What are the steps followed and the transformations undergone by scientific images to be integrated in planetarium software? Who are the actors involved? What are the consequences for the scientific mediation?
To frame this presentation, we draw on the concept of didactic transposition defined by Yves Chevallard (1982, 1994) and that of mediatic transposition proposed by Éric Triquet (1993).
