In January 2024, the Ward Beecher Planetarium was severely damaged by water from the aftermath of a roof fire. Fortunately, no-one was injured, but this resulted in several inches of water ending up on the floor, with water having hit most of the rest of the room, including projectors. During the spring and summer of 2024, the room was stripped completely, down to the studs, and rebuilt with a new dome, star projector, and LED lighting. This was completed just in time to start the next public show season in October 2024. Over the course of this return season, a new total attendance record of 11457 attendees over the course of 117 programs was set. With this new attendance record, and a renovated planetarium, it was time to bring back school groups and special events back to the planetarium on a regular basis. Bringing more staff onboard has allowed the planetarium to return to a full suite of programs and activities, and with the word spreading in the community, the 2025-2026 season is sure to be exciting.
