Three different Multimedia Realizations of Narrated Sci Fi Stories

The presentation demonstrates the possibilities of adapting science fiction stories for fulldome projections. In 2025/26, the “art meets science – Foundation Herbert W. Franke” produced three of Franke's short stories in English translation that revolve around big philosophic questions facing humanity: Is there a creator? Do we live in a virtual world? And how will the universe end? Three very different, but also possible models of the world, raised by a great storyteller. For the first time, they were turned into a multimedia edutainment that can be perceived under the dome of a planetarium. It brings a mixture of entertainment and science education. The presentation will highlight the challenges that had to be overcome in the multimedia production of these narrated stories (duration between 8 and 15 min each) about important scientific questions. It will also show three different ways for the audiovisual implementation regarding advantages and disadvantages. Part of the production team was the well-known fulldome specialist Sergey Prokofyev. The relevance of such kind of art and science combination for future education is presented as well as lessons learnt during production period.
