At Frost Science, we designed a novel approach to planetarium programming that prioritizes audience agency, strategic partnerships, and the creative potential of the Dark Matter system. How to Die in Space, based on the book by Dr. Paul Sutter, takes audiences on an interactive journey through extreme cosmic environments such as rogue planets, pulsars, supernovas, and more, where their decisions determine whether they survive or perish. By allowing audiences to shape the narrative in real time, the show creates meaningful engagement and variability across performances. This session explores the design process behind this “choose your own adventure” format, highlighting challenges, technical considerations, and creative solutions applicable to other planetariums.
