Join representatives from the Outreach Team for the NASA PUNCH (Polarimeter to UNify the Corona and Heliosphere) mission for an interactive workshop that features hands-on training on a novel suite of field-tested, multisensory, multicultural activities around the theme of ancient and modern sun watching. This workshop includes both tabletop activities for use in exhibit spaces as well as live interactive activities for use in a planetarium dome in association with a forthcoming full dome film on ancient and modern sun-watching. Our well-vetted, products and activities include Seeing the Sun's Corona with your Hands, The Petroglyph Inquiry for Blind and Low Vision Learners, Birthday Sunrises on a Chaco Canyon Horizon, Dancing Up a Solar Storm, the 3-Hole PUNCH Pinhole Projector (indoor and outdoor use), and the PUNCH Team Cards. This workshop equips participants to facilitate a Sun-related event in spaces inside and outside of full dome theaters and to provide hands-on experience implementing research-based best practices for public engagement. Activity guides and materials are available for download at https://punch.space.swri.edu/punch_outreach_products.php.
[Notes: John Keller from Fiske Planetarium will lead this workshop with support from other NASA PUNCH Outreach team members. This workshop can accommodate up to 60 participants, and can make excellent use of a full time workshop session. Access to 4-6 tables for demonstration of the above activities is ideal, including access to power at one of the tables. We will also have dome assets for live interactive planetarium activities that could be demonstrated in a dome environment. We are especially excited to demonstrate how near real-time PUNCH videos of the solar wind can be made available to all planetariums. And to offer the community a freely available dome demo of solar path motion from a World Heritage Great Kiva in Chaco Canyon, New Mexico.]
