Dr Bogdan Chiva Giurca is a British-trained physician and the Global Director & Clinical Lead of the National Academy for Social Prescribing, founded by the UK Secretary of State for Health. He was most recently appointed as the Director of the WHO Collaborating Centre for Social Prescribing Policy and Development. Since 2015, Bogdan has been instrumental in developing, shaping, and successfully launching social prescribing, a policy model that helps people live healthier, more connected lives by linking them to community-based support, social activities, and non-medical interventions that enhance well-being.
Dr Bogdan’s work has influenced healthcare policy globally, supporting social prescribing adoption in 32+ countries and integrating it into university curricula around the world. He has contributed to key policy documents, including the NHS Long Term Plan, and authored three books on medical education. Dr Bogdan is an Honorary Lecturer at University College London and holds teaching roles at Imperial College London and Harvard University, earning recognition as one of UK's Top 100 Most Influential People in Health.
