N,N'Dioctyl-3,4,9,10-perylenedicarboximide (PTCDI-C8) is regarded as the promising molecule in the fields of photovoltaics and sensors owing to their remarkable photostability, and high electron mobility. In this study, the change in the absorption and fluorescence spectra of PTCDI-C8 in the presence and absence of external electric fields was measured to investigate the delocalization of exciton. The changes in dipole moment and polarizability between the ground state and excited state in the monomer of PTCDI-C8 were evaluated by using electroabsorption spectroscopy. Excimer-like fluorescence band was observed in the fluorescence spectra and this band was ascribed to the aggregates such as the dimer of PTCDI-C8. The change in the polarizability was larger for the excimer-like fluorescence band than that for the monomer fluorescence band. The observed greater polarizability of the excimer-like band indicates the delocalization of exciton through the coherent energy transfer mechanism.
