Silicon on Insulator (SoI) technolgy has tantalized the photonic word in terms of device compactness and higher confinement of power in the modelled integrated structure. A gas sensor is proposed for the sensing of Carbon dioxide (CO2) gas at the places where this gas poses the large emission risk. The modelled device is a micro racetrack resonator working in the wavelength range of 1350 nm to 1850 nm. The materials used for device modeling are silicon as a guiding material, silicon dioxide as a substrate and a CO2 glass cavity as a cladding. The sensing of gas is done on the basis of change in the refractive index of the spectrum when compared with a referenced spectrum. The concentration of CO2 gas with air volume fraction is calculated using Lorentz-Lorenz mixing rule. The sensitivity of 595.88 nm/RIU with a shift of 29.21 nm is evaluated to check the performance of the racetrack resonator.
