Understanding the behavior of materials under mechanical stress is vital for developing new, sustainable materials. Waterborne microparticle latex films are particularly noteworthy due to their mechanical stability and environmental benefits. While macro-scale testing has improved our understanding of these films, a lack of microscopic observation limits insights into their breakage mechanisms. This study addresses this gap by integrating a uniaxial stretching device with tip-scan AFM to observe polymeric microparticle latex films under various strains. This approach aims to reveal the complex mechanical properties of latex films and explore how they can be optimized during manufacturing, paving the way for tailored material performance to achieve diverse objectives.
