With global warming on the rise, controlling carbon dioxide emissions is crucial. This study proposes using piezo-photocatalysts that harness sustainable energy sources, like mechanical energy from rivers and sunlight, for the carbon dioxide reduction reaction (CO2RR). We designed a heterostructure catalyst based on the photocatalytic properties of silver-doped titanium dioxide (Ag-doped TiO2) and the piezocatalytic properties of barium titanate (BaTiO3, BTO) using hydrothermal methods. By precisely tailoring the Ag-doped BTO/TiO2 heterostructures and adjusting their morphologies and crystal structures, we enhanced their CO2RR performance. The optimized heterostructure shows significantly improved CO2RR performance under UV light and ultrasonic vibration, achieving a CO yield of 7.29 μmol/g·h, which is 3.90 times and 5.40 times higher than the yields from individual photocatalysis and piezocatalysis, respectively. The synergistic effects of BTO and Ag-doped TiO2 effectively integrate charge transfer pathways, accelerating the catalytic reaction and serving as a nanogenerator.
