In this study, we investigated the enhancement of power conversion efficiency (PCE) of 200 nm ultra-thin methylammonium lead iodide (MAPbI3) perovskite solar cells (PSCs). We incorporated metallic and dielectric-coated metallic nanoparticles in the absorber layer to increase effective absorption via localized surface plasmon resonance (LSPR) effects which results in longer optical propagation, larger scattering and improved carrier generation through electric field enhancement. We utilized the finite-difference time-domain (FDTD) method for optical properties and numerical simulations for electrical properties, designing a star shaped nano-prism solar cell structure. Optimizing the shape, size and material of this structure, significant absorption enhancement was accomplished. A 10 nm dielectric coating over the Ag NP was added over the optimized structure to minimize parasitic absorption and carrier recombination, yielding a 27% absorption improvement and a PCE of 21.27%.
