The present study focuses on the high magnetization of FeCo alloys and the large uniaxial magnetic anisotropy constant induced by bct distortion. The correlation between crystal structure and perpendicular magnetic anisotropy in FeCo/VN multilayer films epitaxially grown on Pd(001) underlayers is investigated. The insertion of VN layers promotes bct deformation and induces perpendicular magnetic anisotropy. Furthermore, it is suggested that Fe contributes more strongly than Co to the induction of perpendicular magnetic anisotropy.
