Time-resolved infrared (TR-IR) absorption measurement is a vital tool for studying molecular structural transformations in biochemical reactions and charge-carrier dynamics in semiconductors. The conventional pump-probe technique provides ps-fs time resolution but suffers from technical limitations in generating ultrashort IR pulses and low sensitivity of IR detectors due to thermal background noise. Quantum infrared spectroscopy (QIRS) is a promising solution as it enables IR spectroscopy with a visible-light source and detector. In this work, we propose a pump-probe scheme in a pulsed-laser-excited QIRS setup for transient IR absorption measurements with visible photon detection. As a proof-of-principle demonstration, we extract the change in absorption of a semiconductor device at the ps timescale. These results pave the way for performing TR-IR spectroscopy with a simple, more compact setup using low-power visible pulsed pumping and a silicon detector.
