Recently, integration of photonics and electronics has been attracting a lot of interest owing to the demands for broadband optical fiber communication systems and highspeed data links in data centers. Optical devices based on ferroelectric crystals exhibit excellent characteristics for optical and electrical signal conversions. Especially, in χ(2)-based photonic devices, signal conversion characteristics with low distortion and negligible chirping are obtainable in microwave (MW) ~ THz wave frequency ranges. The authors’ group have been trying to develop advanced optical devices utilizing ferroelectric crystals (LiNbO3, LiTaO3, etc.) for optical-electrical signal conversions and their field trial experiments. In this talk, recent studies on ferroelectric crystal devices are to be presented.
