Strain engineering of epitaxial RIG films offers a powerful route to tailor SW properties through magnetoelastic coupling. YIG films grown on sGGG substrates develop a tetragonal distortion (in-plane expansion, out-of-plane contraction) due to biaxial tensile strain, rendering propagating SWs electrically tunable [1]. An IDE patterned along the SW propagation path modulates the frequency and phase of MSSWs via in-plane orbital polarization. A key open question is whether this tunability is universal to tetragonally distorted garnets, or depends critically on the sign of in-plane strain and its geometric alignment with the applied field.
