Water and alcohols exhibit dielectric responses in the terahertz region that originate from their molecular structures and hydrogen bonding. Terahertz time-domain spectroscopy enables the evaluation of molecular dynamics in liquids through their dielectric response. Since ethylene glycol (EG) forms hydrogen bonds with water molecules, the molecular dynamics and hydration structure in EG aqueous solutions are expected to change depending on the concentration. In this presentation, we discuss the intermolecular interactions between water and EG molecules and the hydration structure based on the dielectric properties of EG aqueous solutions with various concentrations.
