Mechanochromic material showing visual color change from blue to green by mechanical pressure was obtained. Investigations such as ultraviolet–visible spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction and birefringence observation revealed the mechanochromism was based on a phase transition form crystalline to amorphous state. Also, organic dielectric devices with a blue or green thin film were fabricated. The electrical resistance of the green thin film device approached that of the blue thin film device as the applied mechanical pressure increased.
