We demonstrate a humidity-responsive structural color platform based on a Mie-resonant Si@SiO2 nanosphere monolayer coupled with a chitosan hydrogel spacer and an Al/Si reflective substrate. The chitosan layer absorbs water and swells under high relative humidity, changing the optical path length of the cavity. This modulates the coupling between the Mie resonances of the Si nanospheres and the Fabry–Perot interference of the mirror-enhanced cavity, resulting in visible color changes. Compared with the chitosan/Al/Si structure, the Si@SiO2 monolayer/chitosan/Al/Si structure shows clearer humidity-dependent color tuning from blue to green and yellow/orange. We will also discuss how nanosphere parameters, such as the Si core diameter and SiO2 shell thickness, affect the color tuning behavior. This system provides a simple route toward naked-eye, real-time colorimetric humidity sensing.
