Building on our prior finding that a 20.5 degree upward gaze is the ergonomically optimal viewing direction for augmented-reality (AR) medical eyewear, we designed and characterized a surface-relief grating waveguide display tuned to that geometry. Imaging a known grid through the light engine splits the optical path into a deterministic geometric distortion, which is fully invertible by a display-side pre-warp, and a strongly anisotropic blur (≈20 px vs ≈4 px FWHM); display-side pre-compensation raises edge sharpness by ≈35 %.
