Incoherent Digital Holography
Incoherent digital holography (IDH) under spatially incoherent illumination has gained significant interest for its ability to record three-dimensional (3D) speckle-free holograms of objects illuminated by LEDs, white light, or fluorescence sources incompatible with conventional digital holography. Self-interference is the fundamental idea of IDH: every point of an incoherently illuminated object is spatially self-coherent and can interfere with sheared or otherwise altered copy of itself, creating a hologram that resembles a Fresnel zone plate on the detector. One practical consideration in many IDH techniques is the requirement for multiple sequential exposures to extract object information, making them sensitive to vibrations and unsuitable for dynamic scenes. Here, we propose and demonstrate a single-shot on-axis IDH, using a Sagnac shearing interferometer combined with a polarization camera. We experimentally validate the system by imaging LED illuminated numeral targets, obtaining clear speckle-free reconstructions.
