The molecular ordering of liquid crystalline polymers (LCP) significantly influences their optical properties, attracting widespread attention in the field of nonlinear optics. In particular, the large molecular dipole moments and anisotropic molecular arrangement in LCP structures may contribute to localized polarization and nonlinear optical responses such as second harmonic generation (SHG) and terahertz (THz) emissions. Since SHG is highly sensitive to inversion symmetry breaking and noncentrosymmetric order, polarization-resolved SHG measurements provide an effective method for evaluating the nonlinear optical response of LCP films.
In this study, polarization-dependent spatially resolved SHG measurements were performed on LCP films of different thicknesses. The results show that the 100 μm-thick film exhibits the strongest SHG response. Furthermore, the dependence on the incident polarization conditions indicates that local variations in molecular orientation exist and nonlinear optical activity within the LCP structure.
