[IS4-4]Evaluation of ALS patients with Dysphagia in the USA using Swallowing CT: A Case Series

Dr. Marlís González-Fernández, is a professor in the Departments of Physical Medicineand Rehabilitation, Orthopaedic Surgery, and Art as Applied to Medicine at Johns HopkinsUniversity School of Medicine and Director of the Department of Physical Medicineand Rehabilitation.
She earned her medical degree from the University of Puerto Rico School of Medicineand completed residency training in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at SinaiHospital of Baltimore. She subsequently obtained a PhD in Clinical Investigation fromthe Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, integrating expertise in clinicalrehabilitation and research methodology.
Her research focuses on advancing the clinical science of swallowing disorders. Thisincludes studying specific neural injury patterns influence dysphagia and recoverypaths after stroke. She has helped define the epidemiology and predictors for safeoral intake after stroke, providing evidence that improves decisions about feedingtubes and rehabilitation planning. A key part of her recent work includes developingand applying Swallowing CT (SCT) as an imaging tool to better understand swallowingphysiology and airway protection, expanding research beyond traditional videofluoroscopy.
