In this study, arsenic-containing residue was immobilized with copper slag based glass, (1-x)(53SiO2-19Fe2O3-19Na2O-9B2O3)-xCuO (x=,2,4,6,8 Wt%). The effects of copper oxide addition on structure and arsenic immobilization in copper slag based glass were investigated with XRD, FTIR, XPS and DTA. The XRD analysis shows that all the samples (x<wt 8%) form homogeneous glasses. FTIR spectrum indicates the iron silicate based structure has been depolymerized by the addition of CuO, which results in the conversion of Q3 to Q1/Q2. Moreover, the XPS spectrum proves that Cu acts as glass modifier in the glass, forming Cu-O-Si/As bonds in the glass. The DTA dates reveals that the glass thermal stability keeps constant with the increase of CuO contents.
