Mercury pollution from flue gas has drawn attention worldwide. To achieve efficient catalytic oxidation of Hg, a low-loading catalyst CuCl2/γ-Al2O3 was designed. This catalyst synthesized from impregnation and roasting process shows high activity up to 8% for selective catalytic oxidation. The roasting process during synthetic stage affects the CuCl2 forms and the catalytic activity. Only a small amount of inactive copper aluminate is generated after roasting of CuCl2/γ-Al2O3 in air and results in more catalytic active substance CuCl2 in the surface of the carrier.
