Copper should be removed to recover precious metals from speissis, which is generated during pyrometallurgical processes as by-product. Although copper has been removed by sulfuric acid leaching with aeration, more copper had to be removed to further concentrate the precious metals in leach residue. Therefore, ferric ion (Fe3+) and oxygen as oxidants were added to increase the leaching efficiency of copper. Synergetic effects was expected by using both oxygen and ferric ion because they have a sufficient oxidizing power for Cu metal. The leaching efficiency of copper increased with increasing initial ferric ion concentration and the amount of oxygen introduced. The leaching efficiency of copper were 96% and 88% using sulfuric acid solution with and without ferric ion, respectively, under the following conditions; 800 cc/min aeration; leaching time 24 hours, agitation speed 300 rpm, pulp density 10%, 2 M sulfuric acid concentration.
