Heavy metal pollution is a serious concern in China. The mining, smelting, metal processing industries wastewater discharges lot of heavy metal ions into the environment, which causes severe environment pollution and harmful to the human health. Chromium is one of the heavy metal ions appeared in the above metal plating industries wastewater and has to reduce its concentration to permissible levels before discharge into water. Removal of chromium ions by using traditional methods is either expensive or ineffective. This work focused on the adsorption method using agricultural waste (leaves) to remove chromium ion present in wastewater. The result shows that the leaves have 70% adsorption efficiency in removing chromium ions.
