South Korea is vulnerable to international mineral resource supply and demand fluctuations because 99% of its metal mineral resources are imported. South Korea needs to establish a stable resource supply and demand system for sustainable development of domestic industries. This article presents the import and export status of ore and scrap of major metals in Korea, and summarizes the policy of Korean government for urban mining industry and the research project programs for recovery of valuable metals from urban mine.
