The aberrant salience hypothesis is one of the most convincing explanations of the pathophysiology of schizophrenia, particularly delusions. In this presentation, I first present my novel definition of delusion, which can be applied to animals that cannot verbally communicate their internal mental representations. According to this definition, delusions are a state in which enhanced salience is given to trivial, non-significant environmental stimuli. Second, I will present computational models of the aberrant salience syndrome. The candidates of computation "lesions" are multiple. Finally, I will present our fMRI data. Dopaminergic connectivities likely play a key role in aberrant salience in schizophrenia.
