[SY6-4]E-Cigarettes: Evidence, Risks, and the Role of Community Pharmacists

Electronic cigarette (e-cigarette) use has increased rapidly worldwide, particularly among adolescents and young adults, raising major public health concerns regarding nicotine addiction and potential health risks. Despite strict restrictions on the commercial sale of nicotine-containing e-cigarettes in Japan, heated tobacco products and non-nicotine vaping products remain popular among consumers. This session will provide an overview of the global and regional prevalence of e-cigarette use and summarize current scientific evidence regarding their health effects and safety concerns. The presentation will also discuss the controversial role of e-cigarettes in smoking cessation and the challenges associated with conflicting information and public perceptions. This session highlights the role of community pharmacists in tobacco control, including counseling and evidence-based care related to e-cigarettes and smoking cessation. This session aims to equip community pharmacists with practical knowledge and up-to-date evidence to support effective patient counseling and care regarding e-cigarettes.
電子タバコ：エビデンス、健康リスク、および地域薬剤師の役割
電子タバコ（e-cigarette）の使用は世界的に急増しており、特に若年層におけるニコチン依存や健康被害が公衆衛生上の課題となっている。本講演では、電子タバコの国内外での普及状況や健康影響、安全性に関する最新の科学的知見を紹介する。また、禁煙補助としての有効性を巡る議論や社会的認識の課題について解説し、地域薬剤師による禁煙支援やエビデンスに基づく患者指導の重要性について論じる。
