Future wireless systems require both high-order modulation and high-speed ADCs to support high data rates. To reduce receiver power consumption, 1-bit ADCs are an attractive solution. However, the resulting nonlinear distortion significantly degrades the detection performance of 16QAM signals. To address this issue, in our previous work, we showed that threshold tuning improves the performance of the statistics-aware detector in [2]. In this paper, we analytically derive the optimal threshold from the statistics of the estimated symbols. Although the derivation is based on approximations, the validity of the proposed threshold design is demonstrated through comparison with the SER-optimal threshold obtained by Monte Carlo simulations.
