Wideband transmitters and signal generators require digital-to-analog converters (DACs) with high sampling rate and wide analog bandwidth, but a single CMOS DAC channel is limited by switching speed, output loading, clock jitter, and power. Frequency-interleaved DACs address this limitation by dividing the target spectrum into subbands, generating each subband with a lower-bandwidth DAC path, upconverting the higher bands, and combining the analog outputs. This presentation describes multi-frequency-band upconversion paths for a frequency-interleaved DAC targeting a 0-20 GHz output spectrum with four 5-GHz bands. Post-layout simulation demonstrates simultaneous combination of four output tones across the target 0-20 GHz spectrum.
