Based on the requirement of a biobank for research, we applied for and received support from an intramural research grant starting in 2016 and established it in a bottom-up approach. After three years of support activities, the biobank project was launched in 2019 with the establishment of a translational research program. We prepared a pamphlet for comprehensive consent for ethical considerations. For facilities, we also introduced barcode management, emulating other biobanks. We have completed the registration in the AMED biobank project, and the projects focus on gastroenterological surgery, urology, and gynecology. One of the unique features of our biobank is that we collect lifestyle questionnaires and linkage to the hospital-based cancer registry to obtain their risk factors and prognosis in collaboration with the Department of Medical Statistics. We are also building a dataset that combines clinical information, genome sequencing, and tissue microarray for urologic cancers. This presentation will report on the characteristics and points to note concerning biobanks at our university, ongoing collaborative research, and future issues based on the history of past efforts.
