The Linear IFMIF Prototype Accelerator (LIPAc) has an equipment to inject Kr gas into the low energy beam transport (LEBT) to promote space charge compensation that electrons generated by ionization of background gas neutralize the space charge of the beam. This Kr gas injection system enables fast rising of beam pulses suit for short pulsed operations using an electrostatic beam chopper. This Kr gas injection was examined in the beam commissioning in 2021-2023, and expectedly it showed the effect to improve risetime of beam pulses, and as a side effect, the beam current decreased due to the Kr injection. We will report results of these experiments and some PIC simulations that performed to analyze the beam and background plasma contributing to the space charge compensation in the LEBT under the beam operations.
