Kyoto Fusioneering has constructed and commissioned a LiPb loop (UNITY-1), which operates at 500°C with a 300 L LiPb inventory and is accompanied by two electromagnetic pumps, dump tanks, electric heaters etc. Performance tests using protium and deuterium dissolved in LiPb by a tritium fuel extraction system and high-temperature blanket tests are planned for the future. This section reports on the status of the first phase of UNITY-1, process engineering, commissioning, safety considerations and issues from a safety review perspective.
