NuScale VOYGRTM MR power plant is an innovative design that utilizes proven light water reactor technology as well as reducing the size and simplifying the design. High-strength martensitic stainless steel and nitrogen-strengthened austenitic stainless steel are utilized for containment vessel (CNV), which in one of key component for NuScale Power Module from the perspective of lightness and corrosion resistance. However, there is no experience in applying these materials to large vessels such as CNV, and there are technical challenges in manufacturing and welding large vessels. Therefore, welding mock-up tests were conducted with various welding processes to investigate weldability and mechanical properties. This paper mainly presents the results of the weld mock-up tests for dissimilar welding between martensitic stainless and nitrogen strengthened austenitic stainless.
