[3N05] Irradiation Behavior evaluation of Small Modular Reactor fuel at high burnup (2nd report)

In the development of SMR, there is a movement to achieve high burnup by using HALEU with an enrichment exceeding the conventional 5% and to reduce fuel operation costs. However, the irradiation behavior of high burnup fuel in SMR, whose core conditions are significantly different from those of commercial large reactors, has not been fully studied. In the first report, we evaluated the high burnup behavior under the conditions of the small modular reactor concept using FEMAXI-8 and pointed out problems. In this report, we evaluated the high burnup behavior under core conditions closer to those of a practical reactor, demonstrated the potential of high burnup fuel in small modular reactors, and also pointed out problems and considered countermeasures.
