[1L10]Fabrication of high-purity LiPb alloy for tritium breeding blanket of laser inertial fusion reactors

Liquid lithium-lead alloy (LiPb) is a candidate tritium breeding material for laser fusion reactors. Its thermal and tritium solubility properties are strongly affected by its purity, and the blanket design can be influenced by the properties of liquid LiPb. However, previous studies have reported a large variation in the solubility of hydrogen isotopes in liquid LiPb. The purpose of this study is to synthesize commercial reactor-grade LiPb alloy having high-purity and to clarify its thermophysical properties. 7858 g of 99.99 wt% Pb and 57 g of 99.98 wt% Li were mixed and stirred at 300–340 °C for 3 hours under vacuum atmosphere. The microstructure, hardness, specific heat, thermal diffusivity and hydrogen solubility of the synthesized LiPb alloy will be presented.
