Understanding the long-term behavior of radionuclides in radioactive sludge generated from the contaminated water at the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant is essential. In this study, the chemical state changes of iron compounds and sorbed elements during the aging process were evaluated. No significant change was observed in the local Fe structure of ferrihydrite after aging for up to 6 weeks; however, the chemical state of the sorbed Eu was suggested to have changed slightly.
