At the Japan Atomic Energy Agency (JAEA), Nuclear Science Research Institute, analytical studies are being conducted to determine the isotopic compositions and elemental ratios of U, Pu, Gd, and Nd in dissolved fuel debris samples. The received fuel debris was converted into a solution by alkaline fusion treatment. The target elements were subsequently separated using anion exchange resin or UTEVA resin, depending on their chemical characteristics. Isotopic measurements were performed using thermal ionization mass spectrometry (TIMS), and the concentrations of each element were determined by isotope dilution mass spectrometry (IDMS).
