U-bearing Synroc was fabricated by spark plasma sintering (SPS), and its phase assemblage and U solubility were evaluated using SEM-EDS and XRD. The fabricated Synroc consisted mainly of pyrochlore, perovskite, and UO2, and U was preferentially incorporated into pyrochlore rather than perovskite. Furthermore, the U concentrations in each phase were comparable to those reported for conventionally furnace-sintered samples, indicating that SPS can produce Synroc with U solubility comparable to that achieved by conventional furnace sintering.
